This specific piece from the poetry book reminds me of the song “Beginning Middle End” from “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before : Forever and Always” .
Amanda’s books have always been a hit or miss for me. Sometimes I LOVE IT, other times like now, I’m stuck between liking it or nah… The message of female empowerment, feminism, sisterhood is strong and admirable. But for the 2nd poetry book set in her “You are your own fairy tale” series , I find that it lacks some fairytale magic. We have the King and Queen with their two daughters. The princesses wondering why must there be a prince save the princess and why does the fairytale end after they get married. These are oldies but goodies fairytale themes, it is the classics. Maybe I am bored of how predictable the different ‘fresher’ twists can be? Amanda has always be know for her unique perspective on things. I enjoyed her “Women are some kind of magic” immensely, maybe the repeated Princess saves Herself theme from her bored me?
I still recommend you give this a try. Even though I think her older works are better. There are some truths that are acknowledged universally. The writing isn’t as lyrical or beautifully poetic as her previous works, kinda mild and light in this, more delicate.
